Shea Stadium Information:
Shea Stadium is located in Flushing, New York, and offers a rich history to the people of the area, the fans, and any team that plays there. Although most people refer to this venue as Shea Stadium, the official name is actually William A. Shea Municipal Stadium. The stadium is named after the man who is responsible for bringing the game of National League baseball back to the city of New York.
The New York Mets of the MLB is the only team that plays its home games at Shea Stadium. In the past several other teams have also played at this stadium, but none since the New York Yankees shared the venue for one year in 1998. The New York Giants of the NFL played one season at Shea Stadium in 1975, and the New York Jets of the NFL called it home from 1964 to 1983.
Shea Stadium has a seating capacity of 55,601, which makes it one of the larger parks in the league. And although this stadium has been hosting events since 1964, it still has a lot to offer in the way of fan experience and modern benefits.
In addition to regular sporting events Shea Stadium has also hosted many great concerts. Some of the most popular performers have included The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Eric Clapton, and many more.
The Mets have plans to move out of Shea Stadium before the beginning of the 2009 season. A new ballpark is being built next to the existing venue, and is planned to be called Citi Field.
All in all, Shea Stadium has a lot to offer. Even though the Mets are only going to be playing here for a few more years, it is safe to say that nobody will ever forget all of the great moments that took place inside.
